This shot was already planned for so long, but in last time I always prefered more challenging, more complex compositions for vistas and lost sight to simple images, which really can get very strong - even through their simplicity! And the composition of this image is really simple: 7 mountain layers with a gently layering effect through a little haze in the air to get a feeling of depth. The really challenge for this shot was to predict the conditions - gaps in the clouds, which spots sunlight through. As I saw in the weather maps, that there were a chance for gaps in the midlayer clouds at a daytime and time in the year where the angle of the sun would fit for this composition, I hiked up the mountain in the opposite side - to get a working perspective and balance between the layers - set up with my long lens and waited for gaps. Finally I was so happy as I got a light spot exactly at the major element of my composition - the s-curve valley in the centre of the image. Landscape photography is really amazing!
