I love this contrast between the last stones of an ancient ruin and intact buildings from the same era. What happened to the ruined buildings?

When I arrived at this spot, I was not quick enough to get into setup, which is why I almost ruined this photo by getting the light too harsh. Fortunately, I got it anyway to work in the end. But it got almost ruined.
